LOEWE's inaugural major exhibition, "Crafted World," opened its doors at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, offering a deep dive into the brand's storied history, the essence of Spanish craftsmanship.
Open from March 22 through May 5, 2024, the exhibition welcomes the public free of charge, setting the stage for a global tour that follows.
"Crafted World" represents LOEWE's first grand showcase accessible to the public, crafted to guide visitors on an interactive voyage through eras, materials, and artisanal processes. Curated by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, this immersive experience is steeped in art, culture, and LOEWE’s distinct whimsical aesthetic. The exhibit salutes craftsmen globally who've devoted their lives to the mastery of their craft, while also offering a window into the brand’s evolution from its 1846 origins in Madrid to its status as a premier global fashion house.
The exhibit spans 178 years, chronicling LOEWE's journey of innovation, creative evolution, and mastery of craft. From its 19th-century beginnings to becoming the Spanish royal family's official supplier, to its integration into the LVMH Group, and the establishment of the LOEWE Foundation. It further explores the brand's rejuvenation under Jonathan Anderson's creative leadership over the past decade. The LOEWE Foundation's annual Craft Prize and numerous global artisan collaborations underscore the brand's commitment to preserving and celebrating the art of craftsmanship.
"Crafted World" invites visitors to explore Spain's vibrant landscapes, the untold stories of its workshops, and the intricacies of its design processes. A section emulating a runway show spotlights iconic designs from Jonathan Anderson's tenure, while the exhibit's multimedia approach highlights LOEWE's dedication to global craftsmanship. The curation concludes with nine interactive rooms offering captivating sensory experiences that draw visitors into the artistic inspirations behind LOEWE's collaborations over the last decade.
Crafted by OMA, renowned for spearheading some of the 21st century's most groundbreaking architecture, the 1,600 square meter space extends into the Shanghai Exhibition Center's outdoor atrium, filled with intriguing exhibits. From giant leather sculptures and an interactive "Music Tunnel," to child-friendly displays and a mesmerizing floating garden within an infinity room, the exhibition unfolds across six thematic areas showcasing LOEWE's innovative approach to fashion and craft.
Guests can also visit a specially designed souvenir shop before entering the exhibition, offering exclusive merchandise and curated books for a deeper engagement with LOEWE's craft-centric universe even after their visit.
