Shanghai, September 12th — The immersive performance "BLACK TIE" kicked off at the Shanghai McKinnon Hotel. What makes this creation special is its inspiration from Valentino's 2023 Autumn-Winter Black Tie collection, with the choreography and direction by Conor Doyle for Sleep No More Shanghai. It is a brilliant fusion of fashion, dance, theater, and various forms of art.
The story begins with "BLACK TIE", as the actresses elegantly don Valentino black ties and navigate the scenes, with the camera following their every move to unfold the narrative. Dancers move in rhythm to the music, expressing themselves freely within the context of the environment and attire, allowing each character's personality to shine through. They exude charm and meticulously capture every beat of the moment.
The dancers burst into unbridled freedom, shattering the conventional image of a tie. In the final dance, they break free from constraints and unite as one.
For the audience, watching the performance is a process of sensory awakening, redefining the meaning of the "black tie" within the story. With rebellious and punk-inspired makeup by Valentino, it no longer adheres to established dressing norms, nor does it accept the confines of boundaries. The ideology surrounding the tie is challenged and ultimately completely overturned, offering a radically different interpretation.
At this point, the core concept expressed by Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli in the Black Tie series is vividly portrayed through a series of immersive performances.
In April of this year, the Italian luxury fashion house Valentino announced a collaboration with Punchdrunk and SMG Live to make the immersive theater masterpiece "Sleep No More" its fashion partner. They subsequently introduced a special performance inspired by Valentino's 2023 Spring Collection, "The Box". The "BLACK TIE" performance is an extension and enhancement of this collaboration and marks the first time this series of works has been made available to the public. On September 4th, limited tickets for the "BLACK TIE" immersive special performance were made available for purchase through the "Yanji"(演际) platform and sold out within four minutes.
