Following the reopening of its Beijing flagship store and the successful launch of its first fashion retrospective in China, alexanderwang is continuing to expand its influence and retail presence. On December 21st, the brand opened its new concept store at the Shanghai BFC.
At the grand opening, founder Alexander Wang introduced the season’s theme with the fashion manifesto “Dare to Wang” and unveiled an art installation of his own creation. The installation features the brand’s signature trap studs in the shape of a swing, with the swing seats made from car seats wrapped in classic black leather. This art piece will be on display at the BFC until the end of March 2025.
The event was attended by a host of celebrities and fashion influencers, including young actress and singer Sun Rui, electronic music artist CORSAK Hu Mengzhou, and Lin Yuzhi (Anoryz), among others.
The new concept store at BFC draws inspiration from alexanderwang’s Spring 2024 collection and its New York Soho flagship, The Garage. The store’s walls are textured to resemble freshly paved asphalt, and stacked tires have been creatively repurposed as clothing racks and display units. The 2025 Resort collection, titled “Meta Morph,” was also unveiled during the event. The collection explores themes of uncertainty and transformation, drawing inspiration from the shedding of snake skin, with snake-like patterns evolving into different textures, shapes, and forms. The surreal, AI-inspired designs also feature computer-generated visuals, adding a new layer of tension and dynamism to the fabrics.
At the evening’s celebration, alexanderwang premiered the “Wangover” film. “Wangover Shanghai” will be officially released later this month across the brand’s social media channels. Alexander Wang expressed, “I’m excited for the release of our first international ‘Wangover’ film. The response it got was really exciting. Shanghai is one of my favorite cities, and launching the international version of ‘Wangover’ here makes it all the more special. Every time I come to Shanghai, I’m inspired by the city’s vibrant energy and unique cultural spirit!”
