On January 17, the National Bureau of Statistics of China released its retail sales report for December 2024.
In December, the total retail sales of consumer goods in China amounted to 45.17 trillion yuan, marking a 3.7% year-on-year increase. Excluding automobiles, the retail sales of consumer goods totaled 39.51 trillion yuan, growing by 4.2%. In 2024, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 48.79 trillion yuan, a 3.5% increase compared to the previous year. Sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles reached 43.76 trillion yuan, up by 3.8%.
By category, retail sales of goods in December totaled 39.62 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.9% year-on-year. Sales in the clothing, footwear, and textiles category were 1.63 trillion yuan, a slight decline of 0.3%. Cosmetics sales amounted to 34.5 billion yuan, up by 0.8% year-on-year. Jewelry sales totaled 31 billion yuan, marking a 1% decrease. Sports and entertainment goods saw a strong growth of 16.7%, with sales reaching 13.4 billion yuan.
